This article explains how time rounding rules adjust shift durations for pay and billing calculations without changing the original timesheet entries. It also shows you how to define a time rounding rule in a pay agreement so that non-whole units of time are rounded consistently.

Understand Time Rounding Rules
A time rounding rule controls how the duration of time keyed against a shift on a timesheet is rounded when it does not match a whole unit of pay. The rounding affects only the time used for pay and bill calculations. It does not alter the timesheet itself.
You can create one time rounding rule for each primary interpretation header that belongs to an agreement.
π Note: If the Compare to Job Schedule option is enabled in the pay agreement header, a time rounding rule applies only to time worked within the job schedule. Time worked outside the job schedule is rounded according to the hour rounding rule. If the same rounding should apply to both, you can define only an hour rounding rule and omit a time rounding rule.
Rule Types
When you create a time rounding rule, you must select a rule type. The rule type determines how the system rounds the time:
Rule Type | Description |
None (default) | No time rounding is applied. |
Forward | Time is rounded up to the nearest interval. |
Backward | Time is rounded down to the nearest interval. |
Nearest | Time is rounded up or down to the closest interval. |
Rounding Intervals
You must also select an interval. The interval defines the unit by which the system rounds time:
Interval | Description |
None (default) | No time rounding is applied. |
5 Minutes | Time is rounded in 5-minute intervals. |
10 Minutes | Time is rounded in 10-minute intervals. |
15 Minutes | Time is rounded in 15-minute intervals. |
30 Minutes | Time is rounded in 30-minute intervals. |
60 Minutes | Time is rounded in 60-minute intervals. |
Example Time Rounding Outcomes
For example, if the rule type is Forward and the interval is 60 Minutes, the following results apply based on the start and end times on a shift:
Shift Start Time | Shift End Time | Actual Duration | Duration After Applying Rounding Rule |
9:00 | 13:30 | 4.5 hours | 5.0 hours |
9:00 | 12:50 | 3.8 hours | 4.0 hours |
9:00 | 13:00 | 4.0 hours | 4.0 hours |
How to Define a Time Rounding Rule
Follow these steps to define a time rounding rule for a pay agreement:
Open the relevant pay agreement in the Pay Agreement Entry screen.
Scroll down to the Primary Interpretation section, then click the open button.
Click the existing primary interpretation header that you want to add the time rounding rule to. The Primary Interpretation Header, Time Rounding Rule, Midnight Boundary Rules and Unpaid Breaks options are displayed.
Click the open button to the right of Time Rounding Rule. The Time Rounding Rule Entry pane opens on the right-hand side of the screen.
In the Type field in the Time Rounding Rule Entry pane, select the time rounding type that should apply.
In the Interval field in the Time Rounding Rule Entry pane, select the rounding interval that should apply.
Click Save. A confirmation message appears to confirm that the agreement has been saved successfully.
