This article explains how to configure time rounding rules in a pay agreement so that shift durations are rounded consistently for pay and bill calculations, without changing the original timesheet entries.

πŸ“Œ Note: Time rounding rules affect the time used for pay and bill calculation only. They do not change the start or end times recorded on the timesheet.

Configure Time Rounding Rules

A time rounding rule determines how the time keyed against a shift on a timesheet is rounded when the duration does not match a whole unit of pay. You can create one time rounding rule for each primary interpretation header in a pay agreement.

If the Compare to Job Schedule option is enabled in the pay agreement header:

  • The time rounding rule applies only to time worked within the job schedule.

  • Time worked outside the job schedule is rounded by the hour rounding rule.

If you want the same rounding to apply to time worked both within and outside the job schedule, you can configure an hour rounding rule only and do not need a separate time rounding rule.

Rounding Types

The Type field determines how time is rounded:

Type

Description

None

No time rounding is applied (default).

Forward

Time is always rounded up to the nearest interval.

Backward

Time is always rounded down to the nearest interval.

Nearest

Time is rounded up or down to the nearest interval.

Rounding Intervals

The Interval field determines the increment used for rounding:

Interval

Description

None

No time rounding is applied (default).

5 Minutes

Time is rounded to 5-minute intervals.

10 Minutes

Time is rounded to 10-minute intervals.

15 Minutes

Time is rounded to 15-minute intervals.

30 Minutes

Time is rounded to 30-minute intervals.

60 Minutes

Example of Forward Rounding

If the rule type is Forward and the interval is 60 Minutes, the duration is rounded up to the next full hour, as shown below:

  1. Go to Pay Agreement Entry, then open the pay agreement you want to update.

  2. Scroll down to the Primary Interpretation section, then click the Open button. The Primary Interpretation section expands.

  3. Click the existing Primary Interpretation Header you want to add the time rounding rule to. The Primary Interpretation Header, Time Rounding Rule, Midnight Boundary Rules and Unpaid Breaks options are displayed.

  4. Click the Open button to the right of Time Rounding Rule. The Time Rounding Rule Entry pane opens on the right-hand side of the screen.

  5. In the Type field in the Time Rounding Rule Entry pane, select the time rounding type you want to apply.

  6. In the Interval field in the Time Rounding Rule Entry pane, select the rounding interval you want to apply.

  7. Click Save. A confirmation message appears to confirm the agreement has been saved successfully.
