Manage Pay Code Groups

Use this article to understand Pay Code Groups and how they are used across Rates & Rules and Payroll. Pay Code Groups help control which pay codes apply to pay agreements, wage costs, deductions, and statutory calculations.

Pay Code Groups exist in two types:
Rates & Rules – used to limit actions on pay code rules within pay agreements.
Payroll – used to determine which earnings are included in wage costs, taxes, and statutory calculations.

Pay Code Group Type – Rates & Rules

Rates & Rules pay code groups control which pay codes or pay code types apply when configuring actions on pay code rules.

  • Each group belongs to a specific country and is only available for pay agreements in the same country.

  • Each group must include either pay codes or pay code types, not both.

  • The group name must be unique within the country.

  • You can edit the name and included pay codes/types later, but you cannot change the group’s country.

  • Updates only apply to timesheets interpreted after the change.

Pay Code Group Type – Payroll

Payroll pay code groups define which earnings are subject to wage costs, deductions, and statutory requirements.

Pay code groups are used in the following areas:

  • Deduction headers using percentage-based deductions.

  • AU Payroll – payroll tax, WorkCover, superannuation contribution rate rules, employee benefit schemes.

  • NZ Payroll – KiwiSaver employer contributions, ACC employer levy, and PAYG leave calculations.

Validity Periods

  • Each group contains one or more validity periods (start/end dates).

  • Use multiple periods when pay code applicability changes over time.

  • The system automatically applies the version valid on the end date of the pay batch.

  • At least one validity period is required when a group is created.
