SAFF file member name truncation (AU only)

How FastTrack360 automatically truncates payee name fields to 40 characters when generating SAFF files for SuperStream contributions.

Written by Alex McGowan

Payee records in FastTrack360 allow up to 50 characters in the Surname, First Name, and Middle Name fields in Payee Details.

To access Payee Details:

  1. Click Portal, then click Pay.

  2. Click Payee, then click Payee Maintenance.

  3. Click Payee Entry, then click Payee Details.

What's changed

Previously, when generating SAFF files for SuperStream contributions, the system output the Family Name, Given Name, and Other Given Name fields directly from the payee record without applying any character length restriction.

If any of these fields contained more than 40 characters, the full value was written to the SAFF file, which could result in non-compliance with the SuperStream specification and potential rejection by superannuation funds.

Now, when generating SAFF files, the system automatically truncates the Family Name, Given Name, and Other Given Name fields to a maximum of 40 characters. If a name field contains 40 characters or fewer, it is output to the SAFF file without modification.

If a name field exceeds 40 characters, only the first 40 characters are included in the generated file.

📌 Note: The truncation is applied at the point of file generation only and does not modify the underlying data stored in the payee record.

Benefits

This enhancement ensures that SAFF files generated for SuperStream contributions comply with the SuperStream specification character length requirements for member name fields. This reduces the risk of SAFF file rejection by superannuation funds in cases where payee records contain names that exceed 40 characters.
