A primary interpretation header groups together time rounding rules, midnight boundary rules and unpaid break rules that control how the system prepares timesheet data before secondary interpretation runs. Each pay agreement must have at least one primary interpretation header before any primary interpretation rules can be configured for that agreement.
Configure a Primary Interpretation Header
Open the relevant pay agreement in the Pay Agreement Entry screen.
Scroll down to the Primary Interpretation section, then click the Open button.
Click Add.
In the Validity date from field in the Primary Interpretation pane, click the calendar button, then use the calendar control to select the date from which the primary interpretation header will be valid.
If this is the first or only primary interpretation header in the agreement, set this date to the start date of the agreement validity period as defined in the agreement header.
In the to field in the Primary Interpretation pane, click the calendar button, then use the calendar control to select the date after which the primary interpretation header will no longer be valid.
If this is the last or only primary interpretation header in the agreement, set this date to the end date of the agreement validity period as defined in the agreement header.
You can leave this field blank if the primary interpretation header should remain valid indefinitely.
Click Save.
The system confirms that the agreement has been saved.
Understand Primary Interpretation Header Validity Rules
📌 Note: The validity rules below ensure that primary interpretation runs correctly for the full life of the agreement.
There must always be at least one primary interpretation header that is valid at any point during the agreement’s overall validity period, as defined in the agreement header.
If only one primary interpretation header is defined, its validity period must match the agreement validity period exactly.
If multiple primary interpretation headers are defined within the same agreement:
One header must have a validity start date that matches the agreement start date.
Another header must have a validity end date that matches the agreement end date.
You can leave the validity end date blank if you want a header to remain valid indefinitely.
The validity periods of primary interpretation headers within the same agreement must not overlap.
