Scoring questions are questions that carry a different weighting depending on the answer selected by a candidate. This allows eligible candidates to be ranked according to their level of suitability based on their responses to scoring questions.
How to set up Scoring question:
Choose a suitable question type: Numeric, Yes/No, Value list, or Date.
Tick the Scoring box.
Assign a score to each answer.
You can give 0 points to an answer.
Multiple answers can share the same score.
The total does not need to be 100 points.
Here is an example of Scoring Question settings:
How the system calculates score:
The system automatically calculates scores when a candidate completes a questionnaire. It does this by adding up the points assigned to each preferred answer, and calculating the percentage of the total score by page level & questionnaire level.
An Example Calculation
To understand the score, remember that the percentage is calculated against the maximum possible score for all questions, even if the candidate leaves a non-mandatory question blank.
Component | Maximum Points Available | Candidate Points Scored | Page Percentage |
Page 1 (4 questions $\times$ 100 points each) | 400 points | 360 points | 90% (360/400) |
Page 2 (100 pt and 80 pt questions) | 180 points | 120 points | 67% (120/180) |
Questionnaire Total | 580 points | 480 points | 83% (480/580) |
π Important: If a question is not mandatory and a candidate skips it, the candidate simply earns 0 points for that question.
Applying Scores to the Workflow
Once the Total Percentage Score for the entire questionnaire is calculated, the system uses it to automatically place the candidate into the appropriate referral stage.
The Scores Channel
In the Referral Workflow, there is a dedicated Scores channel. This channel is pre-configured with distinct score ranges, each of which can be mapped to a specific referral workflow stage:
Score Range | Mapped Workflow Stage |
0-20% | (e.g., Unsuitable) |
21-40% | (e.g., Review Required) |
41-60% | (e.g., Mid-Level Review) |
61-80% | (e.g., Strong Candidate) |
81-100% | (e.g., Shortlisted) |
For instance, if a candidate scores 83%, they fall into the 81-100% sub-channel and would be immediately moved to the Shortlisted referral stage.
π€ Tips: Comparing Score vs. Knockout Actions
The automated scoring and stage placement are powerful, but they are always secondary to the Knockout Question rules.
Discard Precedence: If a candidate is discarded by a knockout question, they are immediately rejected, and their score is irrelevant.
Knockout Stage Precedence: If a candidate is moved to a Knockout Stage by a knockout question, they are placed there instead of the stage determined by their percentage score.
Why the Score Still Matters in Knockout:
Even if a candidate is placed in the Knockout Stage, their score is still displayed next to their name. This allows recruiters to rank those backup candidates by score, making it easier to select the best alternative if the preferred candidates don't work out.
