SAFF file telephone number logic (AU only)

How the telephone field population logic for SAFF files has been updated, including removal of the landline field and new mobile number formatting rules.

Written by Alex McGowan

When generating SAFF files for SuperStream contributions, FastTrack360 populates telephone fields from data on the payee's Candidate Details record.

To access Candidate Details:

  1. Click Payroll, then click Payee.

  2. Click Payee Maintenance, then click Payee Entry.

  3. Click Candidate Details.

What's changed

Telephone Minimal Number Landline field

Previously, this field was treated as mandatory and was populated by checking the Mobile No, Bh Phone No, and Ah Phone No fields in that order, using the first field that contained a value.

The Telephone Minimal Number Landline field is no longer populated. It is no longer treated as mandatory and will not be included in the SAFF file output under any circumstances.

Telephone Minimal Number Mobile field

Previously, this field was populated from the Mobile No field; where a value was present, it was left blank.

The Telephone Minimal Number Mobile field is now populated exclusively from the Mobile No field on the payee's Contact Details record. The following formatting rules are applied at the time of SAFF file generation:

  • All non-numeric characters and spaces are stripped from the value.

  • If the resulting number:

    • Doesn't begin with '61' (the Australian international dialling prefix), so it's not populated in the file as it cannot be confirmed as an Australian mobile number.

    • If the resulting number begins with '61', the leading '61' is replaced with '0'. If the characters immediately following '61' are already '0', the '61' is removed without adding a further '0'.

  • If the resulting number:

    • If it's less than 10 characters after the above steps, it is not populated in the file, as a mobile number must be exactly 10 characters.

    • Is exactly 10 characters, and it is populated in the file.

    • Is more than 10 characters, it is truncated to 10 characters and populated in the file.

Benefits

This update aligns the SAFF file telephone field population logic with the SuperStream specification, ensuring that only valid, correctly formatted Australian mobile numbers are submitted to superannuation funds. The removal of the Telephone Minimal Number Landline field from the SAFF file output eliminates the risk of incorrect or mismatched telephone data being submitted via SuperStream.
