Troubleshoot Pay Code Time Rules Not Interpreting

Learn why a pay code time rule may not interpret when multiple Conditional Variable conditions are configured within the same pay agreement rule, and how to resolve this issue.

Written by Jason Tu

Pay code time rules may not interpret when multiple Conditional Variable conditions are configured within the same rule. This is because the system evaluates all configured conditions using AND logic, meaning every condition must be satisfied before the rule's actions can be applied.

Understand Why a Pay Code Time Rule Is Not Interpreting

A pay code time rule can contain multiple conditions, including more than one Conditional Variable.

When multiple conditions are configured within the same rule, the system evaluates them using AND logic. This means all conditions must be satisfied for the rule to trigger.

During processing:

  1. The system checks all conditions configured within the pay code rule.

  2. If every condition is satisfied, the system applies the rule's actions and any associated action limits.

  3. If one or more conditions are not satisfied, the system skips the rule's actions.

  4. The system continues evaluating the next valid rule of the same type.

📌 Note: If a rule contains multiple Conditional Variables, all configured conditions must be satisfied simultaneously. If any condition is not met, the rule will not trigger. This is expected behaviour based on the rule configuration.

Identify Multiple Conditional Variables in a Pay Code Rule

If a pay code time rule is not interpreting or no results are coming through to the interpreter, check whether multiple Conditional Variables are configured within the same rule.

  1. Open the affected pay code rule in the pay agreement configuration.

  2. Review the conditions configured within the rule.

  3. Check whether multiple Conditional Variable conditions have been added.

  4. Determine whether all configured conditions can be satisfied simultaneously.

If a screenshot of the pay agreement rule configuration is available, review the displayed conditions to identify whether more than one Conditional Variable is configured within the same rule.

📌 Note: The presence of multiple Conditional Variables does not automatically indicate an error. However, if one or more conditions are not satisfied, the rule will not trigger.

Resolve Pay Code Time Rules Not Interpreting

If Conditional Variables are required, the recommended configuration is to use one Conditional Variable per pay code rule.

  1. Open the affected pay code rule.

  2. Identify the configured Conditional Variable conditions.

  3. Keep one Conditional Variable condition within the existing rule.

  4. Create a separate pay code rule for each additional Conditional Variable condition.

  5. Review the resulting rules to ensure each contains its intended Conditional Variable condition.

Using separate pay code rules allows the conditions to be evaluated independently rather than requiring multiple Conditional Variable conditions to be satisfied within a single rule.

📌 Note: This configuration helps avoid unexpected interpretation outcomes caused by combining multiple Conditional Variables within the same pay code rule.
